We are in the process of setting up a new customer.
This customer have their mailboxes stored in another Exchange environment.

Exchange has a very nice cutover migration feature that we would like to use but we’re wondering how this will work together with cloudpanel.

The cutover migration you are talking about is only with Exchange Online / Office 365:? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898490(v=exchg.150).aspx

They don’t include that for on-premises to on-premises migrations

I was under that impression as well but Exchange 2016 has a similar migration option and I’ve seen some discussions saying that you’re able to use this to move mailboxes between forests.

It would be a really nice feature to have 🙂

Do you know any good 3rd party applications for this kind of scenario?

A forest migration is something completely different and it involved joining your domains together to create a trust.

There are some third party applications that can migrate the email for you such as MigrationWiz but I think its fairly expensive. Most of the time people will just create the users and export PST’s from the old side and import on the new side.

We are working on a tool that you can run on the client’s location that will pull all the data/settings from their domain and create in CloudPanel automatically… however it won’t transfer the email data for you.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

It is too bad as far I know Microsoft hasn’t made it as easy to migration from on-premises to on-premises as easy as they made it to migrate from on-premise to their Office365 lol
