AD Force Password Change Policy CP Hosted Exchange
Just curious how other Exchange Hosters are dealing with this.
We had an incident where the policy was set to force a password change on a user.? This is hosted so the only thing it was forcing was AD/Exchange credentials.? Password change time comes around so all the users devices configured for email just start failing on credentials.
He had no previous notification, he does not log into the domain so he didn’t get the standard change password dialogue.? All he knew was that his password didn’t work on email clients any more.
We ended up changing his password in CP and then having him log into OWA with that password to use the change password feature there so he could choose his new password.? On a Sunday.
We would like to avoid this.? I know users are going to goof it up even if they had notice but at least we could give them a chance.
How do other Hosters deal with this?

Most hosters do not require (Exchange) you to change your password regularly so they disable it in GPO
I know that “solves” the problem but if hosting for a company that insists on some sort of forced change because of HIPPA or some other security reason it might necessary.
I was hoping someone else had gone through this and come up with a solution that allowed for a smooth forced change.? Or as smooth as possible when dealing with users.

You can get prompted in OWA about your password expiring and have the ability to change it but the problem is notifying the user about the upcoming password change since Outlook doesn’t prompt. If they were regular windows users then it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
Maybe we can look at a password expiration notification in CloudPanel that can send automated messages within X days of their password expiring.
If they were OWA only users it would not be a problem but they don’t use it at all… unless we point them there to change their password.

This would be fantastic and if you could throw in a “lost password reset” option the world would be a better place.
