Different Tenants or companies have the same contacts
Hi,
We have different tenants which have some similar contacts, for example con@test.com, so for the tenant which added the contact first everything works fine, but when another tenant adds the same contact the _companycode of this tenant is added, so the address becomes con_comopanycode@test.com which is causing mail delivery failure “Remote Server returned ‘550 5.1.10 RESOLVER.ADR.
Is there any solution to this?
Hello, the reason we have to customize it is because mail contacts can’t have the same PrimarySmtpAddress. So what happens is if two different companies create the same contact for the same person, it puts a unique PrimarySmtpAddress with the ExternalAddress being their actual email.
If you open powershell, you should see the “ExternalAddress” which is what is used for routing is what is used to send external. I would need some message trace logs from your environment and the “Get-MailContact -Identity <identity> | fl” output of both contacts to troubleshoot further.
The external email address is fine but when they send from outlook this what the address looks like con_Roy@test.com which is not correct
I would still need to see some message details on this. Sadly, I don’t think there is much of a work around because the first mail contact for the external address gets created like normal in the first customer, but if a second customer creates the same external email address contact it has to use a unique PrimarySmtpAddress value. The PrimarySmtpAddress value should still be routable within the Exchange server though, which is what is weird with the issue you are getting.
I’m also reproducing this in our LAB to verify we end up with the same kick back.
